2017 CDA Convention Recap
This past weekend, members of the College Democrats of New York (CDNY) attended the 2017 College Democrats of America’s (CDA) Convention in Las Vegas. With well over 100 students present, CDNY had the unique opportunity to speak with College Democrats from across the country and learn about innovative ways to strengthen the progressive voice of college students.
CDNY is thrilled that our own Vice President, Ryan Trumbauer, was elected to be the next CDA National Development Director. After his victory, Trumbauer said, “At the heart of CDA are its state federations and chapters. As Development Director, I am excited to empower our members financially and professionally. We’ve got a lot of work to do in the upcoming months. The work begins right here, right now.”
CDNY was honored in more ways than one during the CDA Convention. The NYU College Democrats, one of CDNY’s and CDA’s largest chapters, was awarded the prestigious Chapter of the Year award.
“The NYU College Democrats are incredibly grateful for this honor. We’re so proud of our members and the work we’ve done this year and this has definitely given us more momentum to keep going,” said Fadumo Osman, President of NYU College Democrats. Over the past year, the NYU College Democrats organized students for Hillary’s presidential campaign and for several local city and state races. The club also invited guest speakers from across the country, hosted Mayor Bill de Blasio and 12 city-wide agencies on campus, and launched several task forces.
In addition to meeting scores of inspiring College Democrats, this year’s CDA Convention reaffirmed CDNY’s dedication and drive to holding elected officials accountable and supporting grassroots progressive change across the state. CDNY is proud of all of its chapters for putting in the countless hours to help elect Democratic officials on all levels and resisting policies that are trying to stifle the progress we have made as a nation.
