UNIVERSITY AT ALBANY NAMED 2015 COLLEGE DEMOCRATS CHAPTER OF THE YEAR
Albany, N.Y.—The College Democrats of New York are proud to announce that the University at Albany College Democrats were recognized as Chapter of the Year at the summer national convention held from July 22-25, 2015 in Washington, D.C.
"It was a true honor to be awarded national chapter of the year for the third time in 6 years,” said Jamie Zieno, President of the College Democrats of New York and 2013 UAlbany College Democrats President. “This award should show the capital region and the rest of New York State just how exceptional the UAlbany chapter is."
This past year, the UAlbany College Democrats registered hundreds of voters, co-organized the Black Lives Matter rally for racial justice and hosted events with Assembly Members Patricia Fahy, Anthony Brindisi, Angelo Santabarbara, and James Skoufis. Off campus, they worked on several campaigns including Cecilia Tkaczky's reelection campaign and Aaron Wolf's congressional campaign earning a reputation as ”one of Albany's outstanding civic organizations,” said Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan.
“The UAlbany College Democrats are a national model of how to get young people engaged in their communities. I’ve seen them in action working to raise awareness and encouraging young people to make their voices heard in the voting booth,” Mayor Sheehan added. “I'm proud to call these individuals my constituents, and my friends."
In addition, to being named the College Democrats of America Chapter of the Year, UAlbany College Democrat Marc Cohen was presented with the Rising Star award. Kevin Gomez, former Vice President of CDNY and former President of the Stony Brook College Democrats was also named College Democrat of the Year.
As an affiliate of College Democrats of America, the College Democrats of New York work to empower young progressives and elect Democrats to local, statewide and national office.
