College Democrats of New York Endorse George Latimer for Westchester County Executive

ALBANY N.Y. –– The Executive Board of the College Democrats of New York (CDNY) voted unanimously to endorse New York State Senator George Latimer (D-Rye) as the best choice for voters to support in the Westchester County Executive race.

In his career, Latimer served on the Rye City Council, in the Westchester County Board of Legislators, and in the State Assembly and Senate. Senator Latimer has been applauded for his business experience and consistently taking a bipartisan approach for common sense legislation.

Senator Latimer’s leadership would be a much welcomed change in Westchester County, after nearly eight years under County Executive Rob Astorino. Astorino previously made national headlines for his opposition to the Obama administration’s efforts to increase the amount of affordable housing in Westchester, costing the county millions of dollars in Housing & Urban Development funding. Most recently, Astorino was mentioned in a recent federal testimony for having allegedly accepted a Rolex watch in exchange for political favors, calling into question the ethics of his actions.

CDNY Southern Tier Region Chair, Harry Bittker, said, “As a lifelong resident of Westchester County, I’m confident that George Latimer’s values are squarely in line with those of my community. He’s a strong advocate for local businesses, the environment, and supporting diverse and dynamic communities throughout the county. His ability to bring people together and advance a forward-thinking vision for the county is just the type of change Westchester residents––especially young people like myself––are looking for.”

With Election Day around the corner, CDNY urges all College Democrats across the state to assist in their local elections in the coming weeks. CDNY Political Director, Cody McEneny Ingraham, noted, “In the first general election since 2016, it is more important now than ever to reaffirm our Democratic values and ensure progressive leadership in all levels of government, particularly at the county and municipal levels.” With the energy and enthusiasm of College Democrats working on this race, we can hold County Executive Astorino accountable for failing to represent his constituents while in office and help elect an individual who is committed to improving the lives of Westchester residents.
