Axel Clavier, Eastern Regional Chair
Axel Clavier is a senior in political science at Bard College. As Chair of the East Region, he is responsible for mobilizing 45,937 students at seven colleges in the Hudson Valley. The East Region is composed of three Congressional Districts, two of which are shaping up to be among the closest battlegrounds of 2018. Axel is confident CDNY can tip the scales.
Axel brings to his role experience as a lifelong activist, organizer, and Democrat. He firmly believes that pragmatism and idealism are two sides of the same coin, that you must at once speak from your heart and fight with your head. Sound strategy and organization are essential, but if you don’t believe a word of what you’re saying, nobody will.
Before becoming Region Chair, Axel served as the Founding President of the Bard Democrats, as Scheduling Coordinator for the Vice-Chair of the DNC, as a Public Speaker for the Climate Reality Project, among other roles. He was trained in Washington D.C. as a political operative by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. His academic background is in strategy, identity, geopolitics, and American political history.
